Massage is an excellent means of relaxing the body's tissues, stimulating the lymphatic system which ultimately aids in the elimination of unwanted toxins from the body, and reducing muscular aches and pains. We live in a fast-paced, time-poor society, and the massage therapists at Soma understand how important relaxation is to you.
Soma Health and Wellness have an extensive range of Massage Therapy available, all by our fully qualified and registered team of practitioners.
Hot Stone Massage A truly unique body experience, bringing the recipient close to natures elements. Through the use of water heated stones, allow your Soma therapist to alleviate pain, increase joint mobility and bring a sense of calm to the body and mind. The use of heated stones effectively enhances circulation, detoxifies the body of waste in the lymph and blood cells and has a wonderful, sedative effect on the body’s nervous system.
Aromatherapy and Relaxation Massage Aromatherapy massage uses a combination of specific essential oils to create a gentle relaxing massage to help combat the stresses of life. As a holistic treatment, aromatherapy can have a profound effect on physical and psychological well-being. There exists the belief that scent, as the most enduring of our senses, has the power to transform our emotions, and heal our bodies. Choose from our many aromatherapy blends, or create your own unique blend of oils for your indulgent and relaxing massage
Thai Massage Our Thai massage therapist was trained in Chang Mai Thailand in the traditional Thai technique. Relax, fully clothed on our futon mat and experience an interactive use of specific stretching and hand pressure work as your Soma therapist encourages greater joint range and flexibility, reduces muscular pains and stimulates your organ function, nervous and lymphatic system. This unique massage will leave you feeling both relax and re-energised and Thai massage is suitable for all age groups. Lymphatic Drainage
As our front line of defense against infections, body detoxification and responsible for transporting toxins and waste out of the body, it is important to maintain a healthy lymphatic system. This specialised form of massage is carried out by our qualified practitioners as a means of encouraging a healthy immune system. Unlike other forms of massage, lymphatic drainage utilises a light pressure combined with soft pumping movements in the direction of the lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage is excellent in reducing fluid retention, aids in weight management and cellulite reduction, helps reduce on-going fatigue, excellent in reducing recurring colds and flu and helps to increase the body’s immunity. It is an excellent means of facilitating general feelings of health and vitality.
Deep tissue and sports Our therapists are qualified to work through the deeper levels of the body’s tissues, facilitating greater joint function. The aim is to reduce muscular tension, alleviate the body of tight muscle bands, reducing cramps during sports and activity and stimulate blood and oxygen flow to tissues and organs. Deep tissue and sports massage may be painful at times; however the recipient generally feels greater movement and less bodily strain following their session or within the next 24-48 hours.
Infant Massage Soma is excited to bring you our wonderfully interactive and successful infant massage classes. Enjoy the benefits that this ancient art of soothing can bring to your baby. Parents can learn how to relax their child during times of distress and discomfort, improve your baby’s sensory awareness and enhance their neurological development, and most importantly experience the benefits that infant massage can bring to encourage parent and baby relationship.
What should we expect from these classes? Classes are held in the comfort of our warm, relaxing and welcoming health and wellness centre. Parents can choose from our private classes, where their instructor gently guides them through the step by step movements of infant massage. Private classes run over two consecutive weeks in order for parents to take their skills away with them and return with any queries that may have arisen.
Group classes are a fun, interactive alternative to private sessions. A maximum of 4 babies may partake as your qualified instructor guides the group through step by step sequences of infant massage. Group classes are a popular request for mother’s groups, friends and families. The classes run over four consecutive weeks, each class for 60minutes.
What should I bring? One might think the obvious answer here is your baby; however some parents elect not to bring their child along and are guided through the sequences using our life-like baby mannequins. It is recommended that you do try to have your baby attend the classes however, and we request that you bring the following;
- Change mat or small blanket;
- A few of baby’s favorite toys;
- Massage oil if you are already using this, it is a familiar scent for your baby.
