Angela, Naturopath
I commenced going to Angie in December 2009 at which time I was suffering from pre-menopausal symptoms (e.g. hot flushes). I was seeking natural remedies as an alternative to more regular medical advice such as doctor’s recommending HRT as the initial remedy. I found that my symptoms subsided with Angie’s consultation and natural remedies which has postponed use of more invasive medical remedies like HRT at this stage.
My professional relationship with Angie has developed into her helping our family with life changing diet tips, and two family members being consulted and successfully remedied specific health issues.
I recommend Angie in particular as she is a professional and has a manner and personality that is approachable. She will listen, is thorough and her natural approach using herbal and natural remedies has improved our family’s health and well being. She is also mindful of the expense of a family situation.
We have seen the positive benefits in medium to long term results and not just for short term relief. I thank Angie for making huge and tangible benefits to our family’s ongoing health and reduction and eradication of symptoms to give us all greater quality of life. Yours with thanks,

- Norma

Naturopathy

If the right environment for self-healing can be created repair, recovery and good health will result spontaneously, and ill-health will be prevented.

Naturopathy is a holistic natural medicine practice based on the philosophy that the body has the innate ability to heal itself and in doing so will maintain its balance and health. Optimal health and a holistic lifestyle can be created. There are many dietary, lifestyle and genetic factors that may interfere with and weaken this self healing capacity.

Our qualified Naturopath will take you through a thorough case history and may elect to use additional testing to investigate factors contributing to dis-ease and facilitate their removal to restore the body’s self healing capacity. Illness always has a cause which can often be multi-faceted. By identifying the cause and removing it, rapid healing can occur. Naturopathic treatment is always directed at underlying causes, as too often we discover that people are looking for symptomatic treatment, however by treating the cause the symptoms will eventually resolve. Naturopathy offers you a gentle and effective approach to meet your health goals. Naturopathy can help you with acute infections and with long standing health issues.

Primum non nocere – First, do no harm The first principle of naturopathy is to protect the patient by providing the most effective treatment plan with the least risk. The harmful suppression of symptoms will be avoided and the individual’s self-healing process will be encouraged to thrive.

Tolle Totum – Treat the whole person Our qualified naturopath will treat the person and not the disease. Each individual has a unique set of circumstances which will be discussed and taken into account when a treatment plan is formulated. Naturopathy is a holistic approach which addresses all aspects of your health (mental, emotional, physical, diet and lifestyle factors) ensuring that treatment is thorough and the effects long lasting.

Prevention is better than cure Preventing an illness is a great way to stay healthy. Our qualified naturopath will assess your genetic and family history and take into account your social, lifestyle and risk factors to determine the possible health risks you may encounter in the future and endeavor to prevent them.

Education is an extremely important part of the consultation process. Educating patients about their health problems with hope, knowledge and understanding will promote the need for patients to take responsibility for their own health. Motivation and empowerment are tools used to encourage the patient.

How can you benefit? Naturopathy offers you an effective approach to your health issues and empowers you to be pro-active in your treatment. Naturopathy is a holistic approach to alternative medicine which addresses all aspects to your health ensuring that treatment is thorough and long lasting.

Naturopathic diagnostic testing Testing, where appropriate, is an excellent way to gain more information about what is going on inside your body. Testing can give us invaluable information that will allow us to improve the treatment you receive to be more specific to your needs so that you can get better more quickly.

Our naturopaths offer a number of tests here at Soma Health and Wellness including:

BOWEL TOXICITY A simple urine test which can identify putrefaction of protein in the bowel and/or an overgrowth of ‘bad’ bowel bacteria (dysbiosis). An unhealthy bowel can lead to many digestive problems including bloating, flatulence, constipation and leaky gut syndrome.

URINALYSIS A comprehensive test that measures leukocytes, nitrite, pH, protein, glucose, ketone bodies, urobilinogen, bilirubin and blood in urine.

CANDIDA TEST CanDia5® Candida rapid test only requires a fingertip of blood and specifically designed for use by medical practitioners and in-pharmacy testing. The test provides laboratory accuracy for the detection of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis and other Candida infections. Rapid- results are ready within 10 minutes.

COELIAC TEST An estimated 1 to 2 in 100 individuals have Coeliac disease, a gluten-sensitive disorder. Early detection can prevent serious health consequences. Biocard™ Celiac Test is an accurate fingertip blood test. The test procedure only takes between 5 to 10 minutes. The test can also be used to easily monitor the effectiveness of a gluten free diet by retesting after 3 months.

IRIDOLOGY Iridology is the analysis of patterns and structures in the iris of the eye which locates areas and stages of inflammation throughout the body. The iris is the portion of the eye showing colour. It reveals body constitution, inherent strengths and weaknesses, health levels, and transitions that take place in a person's body according to their way of life. The study of the iris is painless and non-invasive.

HAIR TISSUE MINERAL ANALYSIS – HEAVY METAL TOXICITY Hair mineral analysis is an analytical test that measures nutrient and toxic mineral content of hair. This can give an indication of mineral status and toxic metal accumulation in the body. Hair is used as one of the tissues of choice by the Environmental Protection Agency in determining toxic metal exposure. The test may also provide direction for further diagnostic tests which may not have been performed otherwise. All that is needed is a small sample of head hair (the test can still be performed if the hair is treated or colored).

BLOOD PRESSURE A regular blood pressure check is essential for any person with stress, a family history of cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol and hypertension. It is also an important test to maintain general wellbeing.

MINERAL ABSORPTION TEST (TASTE) A quick and easy ‘taste’ test to assess the mineral status in your body, particularly zinc which is arguably the most important trace mineral.

ABO BLOOD TYPING Do you know what your blood type is? This fingertip blood test will instantly provide you with this valuable information. Knowing your blood type can help determine a diet to suit your health needs.

FOOD SENSITIVITY TEST The relationship between the many common symptoms (including fatigue, headache, anxiety, as well as itchy runny nose and puffy eyelids) and the allergies that caused them may go unrecognized for years. Over the years, arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune disease, eczema, and migraines, to name a few serious conditions linked with food allergies, can develop into chronic conditions if the offending allergens are not discovered and removed from the diet. This blood test will analyse your body's reaction to 96 different common foods, beverages and preservatives through detection of food-specific IgG antibodies via ELISA methodology.

HORMONE TEST – MALE AND FEMALE Stress, headaches, reproductive issues, sexual dysfunction, PMS, lethargy and fatigue, as these symptoms and many more could be signs of hormonal imbalance. A simple saliva sample can allow us to test a number of different hormones. The particular hormones tested can be tailored to your specific needs. Regular monitoring of hormone levels allows you to help prevent the symptoms of ageing.
